In Brighton Beach Memoirs Act 1 there is a conflict. There is a financial conflict. Blanche and her daughters Laurie and Nora live at Blanches sisters house Kate. Also living there is Jack (Kates husband) and their two kids Eugene and Stan. First Stan comes home and explains how he has been fired from his job. He has the possibility of getting the job back as long as he writes his boss an apology letter. Which he doesn't want to do because of his "principles". Then Jack comes home and says that the place he is working at is going out of business and he lost the job. With all these people living in one household they are running low on money. Jack had two jobs to keep food on the table. Now he only has one which dosent pay him enough. At this time period Hitler is taking places over. Jack is stressing about how that family members from other countries might come to America. When they do they would come to their house to stay. Jack isn't making enough money to be able to house all of these people. Stan talks to Jack and they agree that Stan will write the letter to get his job back. Not only that but Jack tells Stan to ask his boss for a raise. With Jack having two jobs they were still struggling as at dinner they were all eating liver. Kate says they cant afford something like roast beef. Now Jack only has one job. The family already has 7 people in it with only 2 people working to make money. Financially there is a big conflict as they have to work something out in order to eat.
